Tasks & Productivity

Collaborative Whiteboard

One-line summary: a free-form whiteboard for every task — draw, explain, and brainstorm with your team in real time.

What is the whiteboard?

Every task in Duwam comes with its own whiteboard where any team member can:

  • Draw freely (lines, shapes, arrows).
  • Write text on the board.
  • Paste images.
  • Build flowcharts, wireframes, or brainstorms.
  • Write simultaneously in real time — as if you were in a meeting room together.

It's powered by the well-known Excalidraw technology (the same one Atlassian and Notion use).

When to use it

  • Explaining a complex problem to the team with a quick sketch — clearer than 100 words.
  • Brainstorming — put down all the ideas, arrange them, vote on them.
  • Wireframes — rough interface maps before you start building.
  • Mind maps — to break a big problem into smaller ones.
  • Documenting a decision — a quick sketch that stays in the task's history forever.

How do I open the whiteboard?

  1. Open any task.
  2. Click the "Whiteboard" tab at the top of the task.
  3. The board appears empty (or with a previous drawing if one exists).

Tip: You don't need to create a whiteboard — every task has one ready automatically.

Drawing tools

The toolbar sits to the left of the whiteboard (or right in RTL):

Circle (○) Circles

Real-time collaboration

When a colleague opens the whiteboard at the same moment:

  • You see their mouse cursor in color with their name.
  • Their edits appear instantly (no need to save).
  • You can both draw at the same time without collisions.

Tip: There are no "locks" — everyone draws in their own area. This is deliberate, for speed.

Auto-save

  • Every line you draw is saved to the server within seconds.
  • If your internet drops, you keep drawing locally and the edits sync when it's back.
  • There's no "Save" button — it doesn't exist.

View controls

  • Mouse wheel — zoom in/out
  • Drag with the middle mouse button — move the board (Pan)
  • Ctrl + 0 — recenter
  • Ctrl + Shift + F — Full screen

Export

Click the menu (☰) at the top-left of the whiteboard:

  • PNG — a high-resolution image (for presenting).
  • SVG — vectors (to edit in Figma/Illustrator).
  • JSON — a full copy you can re-import later.

Tip: Export the whiteboard as PNG to paste into a monthly report or a presentation slide. The text stays legible at any size.

Permissions

  • Every member of the task's team can draw.
  • The company admin + project manager can delete elements for everyone.
  • An employee can only delete what they drew.

FAQ

Q: What's the difference between the whiteboard and separate tools like Miro / FigJam? A: The whiteboard in Duwam is embedded in the task — every decision you sketch stays documented with the task, its history, and its members. In Miro you create a separate board, share it by link, and forget where it was a month later.

Q: Does it support touch on a Tablet/iPad? A: Yes — all drawing tools work with a finger or a stylus. Put the app in focus mode for more space.

Q: What's the whiteboard size limit? A: There's no practical limit — you can build a huge mind map. Performance stays excellent even with thousands of elements.

Q: Is the whiteboard available on the Basic plan? A: No — the whiteboard is available on the Professional plan and above. Basic focuses on the essentials (attendance, tasks, chat). During your free trial (14 days) you get the whiteboard and every feature.

Q: Can I copy a whiteboard to another task? A: Not yet — export JSON from the first task and import it into the second. A template feature is coming.

Q: Does the whiteboard work on the mobile app? A: Yes — all tools are available, but drawing with a stylus on an iPad/Tablet is far better than a mouse.
