Field Ops
Worksites & Geofencing
One-line summary: how to create map-based worksites with a geofence, assign employees to them, and let only those physically inside the zone clock in.
Plan: Available on the Professional, Advanced and Business plans. May need to be enabled by the account owner.
Overview
A worksite is a place on the map wrapped by a geofence. When geofencing is enabled for your company, Duwam checks the employee's location the moment they clock in on-site: if they are inside the zone the check-in is accepted, otherwise it is refused and the remaining distance is shown.
Every worksite has:
- A name to identify it (branch, office, warehouse…).
- A boundary — either a circle (centre + radius from 50 to 5000 m) or a drawn boundary (a 3-to-60-corner polygon you trace around the actual building).
- A list of assigned employees.
Tip: The key rule — enforcement follows assignment, not work type. Anyone assigned to a worksite must clock in inside its boundary, whether they are on-site or hybrid. Leave roaming employees unassigned so they can start their shift from anywhere.
For the admin: drawing the zone and assigning employees
Worksite management is available to the owner and admin, and to any employee granted the add employees or manage teams permission.
Create a worksite with a circular zone
- Open Worksites from the sidebar.
- Click "Add", or click directly on the map to drop your first worksite.
- Type the worksite name in the editor.
- Keep the boundary type on "Circle", then:
- Click the map to place the pin, drag it to move, or enter the latitude/longitude by hand.
- Slide the radius slider to set how wide the circle is (50–5000 m).
- Click "Save worksite".
Note: The map uses OpenStreetMap and defaults to Riyadh until you drop your first pin.
Draw a custom boundary (polygon)
If the building isn't round, trace its real outline instead of a circle that swallows the whole block:
- In the editor, switch the boundary type to "Draw boundary".
- Click the map at each corner of the place (at least 3 points, up to 60).
- Drag any point to adjust it, or use "Undo point" / "Clear points".
- Click "Save worksite". The worksite's centre and radius are derived automatically from the drawn boundary.
Warning: Each edge of a drawn boundary must be no longer than 10 km, so a mistyped coordinate can't quietly produce a fence spanning half the city. If a save is rejected, review your points.
Assign employees to a worksite
- In the worksite list, click the users icon next to the worksite.
- Tick the employees who must clock in from this worksite.
- Click "Save".
Tip: An employee can be assigned to more than one worksite; their check-in is then accepted if they are inside the boundary of any worksite assigned to them.
Field employees
At the bottom of the page is a "Field employees" card with a toggle per employee. Turning it on makes the employee field, sharing their live location only during a running shift; turning it off returns them to on-site. The change reaches their phone within seconds.
Note: Field mode (live-location sharing) is separate from geofence assignment. Leave a roaming field employee unassigned to any worksite so they can start their shift from anywhere.
Edit or delete a worksite
- Edit: Click the pencil icon on the worksite row to open it in the editor. Switching a polygon worksite back to a circle drops the previously drawn boundary.
- Delete: Click the trash icon. The worksite becomes inactive, and employees assigned to it can no longer clock in from there.
For the employee: clocking in inside the zone
If you are assigned to one or more worksites, Duwam checks your location when you clock in on-site:
- Be physically inside the boundary of one of your assigned worksites.
- Open Attendance and clock in; the app requests location (GPS) permission.
- If you are inside the zone, your check-in goes through immediately.
- If you are outside it, the check-in is refused and you are shown the remaining distance to the nearest worksite.
Warning: If your company has active worksites and you are on-site but not assigned to any of them, your check-in will not be accepted until your manager assigns you to a worksite. See the Attendance guide for check-in details.
Note: GPS accuracy varies. For drawn boundaries Duwam grants a small margin equal to your device's reported accuracy (up to 20 m) to absorb jitter near the edge; a circle's radius already absorbs this by design.
FAQ
Q: I'm an on-site employee but not assigned to any worksite. Can I clock in? A: If your company has no active worksite, yes — from anywhere. But if active worksites exist, no; your manager must assign you to one first.
Q: I move between client sites. How do I clock in from anywhere? A: Ask your manager not to assign you to any worksite. An unassigned employee isn't subject to the geofence.
Q: I was inside the building but my check-in was refused. A: Usually weak GPS or a tight zone. Try again near a window, and tell your manager to widen the radius a little if it keeps happening.
Q: Is my location sent all day? A: No. Your location is captured only at clock-in. Continuous live-location sharing applies to field employees during a running shift only.
Q: What's the difference between a circular zone and a drawn boundary? A: A circle is quicker (centre + radius); a drawn boundary is more precise because it follows the building's actual shape. Both are enforced the same way.
